This Roman writer tried to produce an epic like Homer did for the Greeks but he failed however his success was that he presented Roman history from its origins to Augustus. Virgil was a poet of the Golden Age, promoted and supported by Rome’s first emperor who was intent on sending a message to Romans and the Ancient World and who had an eye on how he would be remembered.
