The villas of the wealthy Romano-British landowners are among the most striking remains from Roman Britain still visible today. With their impressive mosaics, their private baths, and their sprawling structures, they tell the story of ambitious mixed-culture individuals building a living for themselves in a changing world. In this Day School we will use the tools of archaeology to look at villas from all over Britain and reconstruct the lifestyle, beliefs, and politics of those who built them and lived there – and the fragile stability of the province they lived in…
