This course will offer an in-depth look at the reign and times of Amenhotep III, one of the longest reigning pharaohs in the history of Egypt and one of the most influential in the 18th Dynasty. The first of the three sessions will cover the history of Amenhotep’s reign, the construction of his powerful network of foreign alliance, and his complicated family life, full of controversy and intrigue. The second session will concentrate on the archaeology from the times of Amenhotep, looking at his building projects, the art produced during his reign, and the evolution of Egyptian religion and culture in this period. The last session will look at the international politics and difficult succession.
